Just finished watching Wild Wild Country, the new Netflix docuseries about Osho’s commune in rural Oregon in the early ‘80s. The documentary is wonderfully produced, directors Chapman and Maclain Way do a beautiful and fair job telling the story. It’s hard to describe the documentary in brief, it’s a complex story with many characters and sides. Given the recent scandal surrounding Sogyal Rinpoche and the introspection it’s caused within many Buddhist circles, I think the timing of this docuseries is very appropriate. I highly encourage anyone interested in cults, religion in America, minority religious groups, new age spirituality, or guru-disciple relationships to watch it. And, if you do, please message me about it. I’m very interested in talking with people about it.
